As we wrap up the fall term and enter into the Christmas season, what better way to celebrate than to attend the final Linguistics Circle meeting for 2020?

Our presenter this month is Jason Jung, a PhD candidate in New Testament at MDC. His paper is entitled: “Determining Purpose through Metafunctional Meanings.” The paper will be discussing speech functions and the interpersonal metafunction, how language is used to indicate purpose as applied to Luke. The paper can be downloaded on the CBLTE forum to read beforehand.

For more information, please contact Dr. Dave Yoon (yoond2@mcmaster.ca) or to access CBLTE, contact Doosuk Kim (cblte@mcmaster.ca).

The meeting is on Thursday, December 17, from 7:00-9:00pm.

We look forward to another exciting and stimulating discussion!

In spite of the current pandemic, we are planning on continuing our MDC Linguistics Circle gatherings, albeit online through Webex. The link for accessing the Webex meeting will be provided in advance of each meeting and each paper will be posted on the CBLTE websitea week prior to each meeting. If you are not a member on the website, please contact cblte@mcmaster.ca for access.

If you are interested in presenting a paper at the MDC Linguistics Circle, please be in contact with Dr. Dave Yoon at yoond2@mcmaster.ca. We are looking for papers from established scholars, recent graduates, and graduate students.

We look forward to resuming our stimulating discussions on how linguistics informs our study of Scripture. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
