SUMMARY:Hermeneutics Group
DESCRIPTION:The Hermeneutics Group will be discussing Clement Wen’s paper: “Bonhoeffer’s Dissertations as an Exercise in Hermeneutics? An Introductory Lecture.” \nIn this paper\, Dr. Wen argues that Bonhoeffer’s early thought\, as given to us through his two doctoral dissertations—Sanctorum Communio: A Theological Study of the Sociology of the Church (1927\, published 1930) and Act and Being: Transcendental Philosophy and Ontology in Systematic Theology (1931)—are themselves implicitly hermeneutical in nature and orientation and therefore can be discussed and evaluated as such. \nThe Hermeneutics Group is a monthly gathering of faculty\, students\, and others interested in the issues surrounding hermeneutics. Hermeneutics is a multidisciplinary field of growing interest. It is concerned with how we understand the world around us\, especially but not exclusively written texts\, but also art\, music\, and other meaning-making events. SUMMARY:Linguistics Circle
DESCRIPTION:The final Linguistics Circle meeting for the academic year is this Thursday\, April 9\, 7–9pm. The presenter for this month is Jeyoon Park\, PhD student in New Testament\, with a paper entitled “Toward a High Christological Development in Luke 24: An Intertextual Formation Analysis.” \nAnyone who is interested in joining is most welcome to join\, students\, faculty\, staff\, or anyone else who is interested. As usual\, there is a pre-Circle dinner gathering at 5pm. We will meet in Cullen Hall near the back doors (that face the centre of campus) and walk together to the Phoenix for dinner. \nOur discussion will be held in the usual location\, the College board room\, as well as on Zoom (link below) for those who are unable to join in person. Each gathering\, we have a discussion of a biblical linguistic topic\, based on a paper presented by someone in our community—either a student\, professor\, or a volunteer or invited guest. Anyone with an interest in biblical linguistics is welcome to join\, regardless of experience or knowledge in the field.
