SUMMARY:TRS
DESCRIPTION:Aaron Jung\, The Lamb Beyond Our Frames: Rethinking Method\, Context\, and Theology in Revelation\nAbstract \nDebates over the Lamb in Revelation have often centered on the Lion–Lamb relationship in chapter 5. This paper examines the Lamb’s developing portrayal across Revelation 5–18\, bringing transitivity analysis into dialogue with Frame Semantics. It traces changing participant roles and the relationships among recurring semantic frames\, with particular attention to their intratextual development. The analysis argues that Revelation foregrounds the Lamb’s living royal authority and shared divine kingship\, while his past death grounds his worthiness and provides a political martyr model of allegiance for his witnesses. Their suffering is thus situated within the story of the Lamb’s own fidelity and victory\, a connection reinforced by recurring and anticipatory scenes that make assured victory present amid ongoing trials. This developing configuration of frames carries the discourse through Conquering toward Accompaniment and Residence\, culminating in enduring life shared with God and the Lamb in chapters 19–22. \n\nBio \nI currently live in Hamilton\, Ontario\, with my wife\, Jisoon\, and our daughter\, Ina. As a Baptist pastor and social worker\, I have been involved in youth ministry through both a nonprofit organization and a local church in South Korea\, as well as through a local church in Canada. Building on these experiences in ministry and community service\, I am currently a PhD candidate in Christian Theology\, specializing in New Testament studies at McMaster Divinity College. My academic interests encompass a broad range of methodological approaches to biblical studies\, informed by interdisciplinary insights from psychology\, philosophy\, literary studies\, and linguistics. I seek to integrate these interests into my ongoing research and teaching. Above all\, I want to devote myself to rigorous biblical scholarship\, effective theological education\, and the faithful proclamation of the Word of God. \n\n\nAbout TRS \nThe MDC Theological Research Seminar (TRS) is a bimonthly gathering for all MDC students and faculty. TRS meets from 1:00 PM to 1:50 PM on alternating Wednesdays\, and includes about thirty minutes for the paper presentation and twenty minutes for discussion. \nAll advanced degree students are invited to present a paper and share your research with your colleagues. TRS is an excellent opportunity to “test drive” a paper you will be presenting at an upcoming conference and receive helpful feedback on your current research projects. Thinking about submitting an article to a journal and want some interaction first? TRS will provide it. Just published an article or an essay and want to share it us? TRS is an excellent opportunity to broadcast it. \nThis year the organizing committee consists of Dr. Cynthia Westfall\, Dr. Lee Beach\, and Dr. John Isaak. To submit a paper\, contact a member of the organizing committee. \n\nJoin the Livestream\nPassword: z00m (Note that the password has zeros rather than “o”)
