Suk-il Ahn

Professor Ahn’s primary areas of interest include Old Testament theology and history, Old Testament narrative, Hebrew linguistics, hermeneutics, and interdisciplinary studies (Biblical theology and historical theology). He studied history and sociology at Yonsei University (Double B.A.), earned his M.Div. from Chongshin Theological Seminary, and went on to study Old Testament (Th.M.) at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, near Boston, USA. He also audited Old Testament courses and pursued a Th.M. in Historical Theology at Calvin Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

He later completed his Ph.D. in Old Testament at McMaster Divinity College in Hamilton, Canada, under the supervision of Dr. Mark J. Boda. His dissertation, titled “The Persuasive Portrayal of David and Solomon in Chronicle: A Rhetorical Analysis of the Speeches and Prayers in the David-Solomon Narrative,” was published as part of the McMaster Biblical Studies Series 3 in the United States (2018).

During his Ph.D. studies, he presented a paper titled Luther and Calvin’s Understanding of Isaiah 52:13–53:12 at the 64th Annual Meeting of the Evangelical Theological Society in Milwaukee, WI (2012), which was later published in Reformation Faith: Exegesis and Theology in the Protestant Reformation (2014).
