Summary of Primary Job Functions
A Rocha Ontario delivers a variety of environmental education programs that provide participants with opportunities to connect with the natural world. Our education programs serve a variety of populations: young children, youth, adults with disabilities and the general population. The Education Programs Assistant will work with the A Rocha Ontario team to deliver environmental programs at the Cedar Haven Eco-Centre and will report to the Environmental Education Coordinator.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has a background in environmental sciences, education, social work, or a related field through work experience and/or education. The candidate is able to express their knowledge in a way that is accessible and contributes to inspiring, hands-on experiences. The ideal candidate will be creative and flexible in their approaches to teaching and program development. They will need to be able to work well as part of a team. The ideal candidate has a passion for teaching others about nature and facilitating a deeper relationship with the land.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with the environmental education team to provide excellent programming for young learners
- Engage professionally with caregivers/parents
- Communicate clearly and creatively with participants in environmental education programs
- Work with the team to develop nature-based workshops for the general public and maintain teaching spaces (including a teaching garden)
- Participate in team meetings and learning sessions
- ommunicate with organizational partners and service providers with professionalism and tact
Qualifications and Requirements
- Embodies A Rocha Canada’s Vision, Commitments and Core Values
- Education/experience in environmental science, education, social work, or related fields
- Track record exhibiting ability to collaborate with a team and communicate with the public
- Proven ability to take initiative, manage details, and complete tasks in timely manner
- Willingness to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Commitment to learning and growth
- Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check required
- Access to reliable transportation to and from Cedar Haven Eco-Centre
- Eligible to participate in Canada Summer Jobs program (Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person with official refugee status who is 15-30 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada)
Workweek and Compensation
- Workweek: 35 hours/week, Monday to Friday (with occasional weekend events)
- Work Term: April 21, 2025 – June 27, 2025 (subject to funding and program enrollment)
- Wages: $17.50/hour
