Central is an historic, multi-generational community in central Hamilton, committed to Reformed
theology and tradition of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. The vision of the church is to worship
God, grow as disciples of Jesus, care for one another and take God’s love to the world. The music
ministry at Central has a tradition of high-quality music and musicianship that supports and
enhances congregational worship, and reaches out to the surrounding community through special
musical events. The Director of Music Ministries [DMM] will ensure that music remains a vital
part of our Christian ministry.

The Director of Music Ministries position requires an individual with: formal musical education
(e.g at least a Bachelor of Music from a recognized university), possessing excellent keyboard skills
for both organ and piano; and at least 5 years experience directing church choirs and leading
congregational singing. The position requires strong organizational, administrative, collaborative
and leadership skills. This position is 20 hours/week , paid at RCCO scale including benefits and
will begin January 1, 2023.

Resources include: a Casavant 52 ranks, 5 divisions, 4 manuals, 45 stops organ with a modernized
console (2008); a concert grand piano; and funding for 4 paid soloists.

The responsibilities of the Director of Music Ministries include selecting and preparing music for
all services in collaboration with the minister and building and nurturing a ministry of music to
support congregational singing. The director will also train and develop the choir by conducting
regular rehearsals, and recruiting new choristers as needed. The choir has typically offered two
major annual events: a Christmas candlelight Service and a Good Friday concert.
