PREACHING AND TEACHING

The Lead Pastor shall possess teaching and preaching skills that focus on spiritual thought-provoking, challenging messages that encourage high morale, commitment to goals and daily reading of the Word.

Key Activities

·       Prepare sermons that are encouraging, inspiring, challenging and helpful.

·       Provides mentoring as well as preaching opportunities for interested and capable members of the congregation.

Standards of Performance

·       Sermons are clear and precise indicating adequate study and preparation, reflecting the Word of God.

·       Preaching is in accord with the basic tenets of the Free Methodist Church in Canada.

Core Competencies

·       Organized, excellent communication skills, with sensitivity and knowledge of current social issues.

·       Creativity and flexibility in delivery style to meet diverse congregational groupings.

CONGREGATIONAL RELATIONS/SPIRITUAL GROWTH

The Lead Pastor will engage with the members of the congregation on a corporate level and on a personal level.

Key Activities

·       Set a part of each day aside for seeking God’s will, in regards to personal spiritual growth through the practices of prayer, study and accountability.

·       Encourage accountability relationships to nurture spiritual growth in the lives of staff, leaders and congregational members.

·       Model Jesus.

·       Ensure relevant Biblical preaching occurs.

·       Spiritually mentor and encourage team leaders.

·       Participate in and oversee the pastoral care of the church community. Study and implement/nurture the process of growing non-believers and believers.

·       Prayer for congregation.

Standards of Performance

·       Visible evidence of planned opportunities to promote spiritual health for self and others, through such activities as concerts of prayers, biblical instruction, spiritual growth/health seminars, healing/wholeness workshops, spiritual renewal or retreat weekends as well as promoting the practice of daily Scripture reading.

Core Competencies

·       Ability to energize and motivate congregational members to lead purpose-driven, godly lives.

·       Integrity in a personal relationship with God and with His people.

·       Awareness of the spiritual ‘temperature’ and both spiritual strengths and weaknesses of the congregation.

Minimum Education & Experience

·       Close to Ordination

·       Any Bachelor Degree

·       4-6 years of experience

Preferred Education & Experience

·       Ordained

·       Bachelor’s Degree in Divinity

·       4-6 years of experience

Sarnia is a border city in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, with a 2021-22 population of 71,419.  It is the largest city on Lake Huron and in Lambton County.  Our surrounding area Lambton County includes, Pt. Edward, Brights Grove, Camlachie, Wyoming, Petrolia and Corunna. Aboriginal Reserves include Chippewas of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation, and  Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
