PARISH DEVELOPMENT MISSIONER

The Anglican Diocese of Niagara is seeking a full-time missioner focused on nurturing faithful, vital, and resilient missional faith communities. Working in collaboration with the diocesan senior leadership team, the missioner guides the development and implementation of programs and resources in support of the diocese’s vision and missional-driven initiatives, as articulated in its Mission Action Plan.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the development, implementation, and revision of Mission Action Plans.
  • Facilitate mission-shaped discernment conversations, strategic planning sessions, and learning opportunities including parish vision days/retreats, drawing on congregational development tools.
  • Organize workshops to support healthy congregational development and nurture best practices.
  • Develop and provide congregational resources to support parishes in living out their vital ministries.
  • Coach, mentor and support parish leaders and diocesan volunteers in the area of congregational development, providing consultative services in strategic planning, visioning, and faith formation.
  • Supervise diocesan staff engaged with congregational development ministries.
  • Oversee diocesan faith formation initiatives, programs, and events, with a special focus on children, youth, and families as well as justice and outreach.
  • Engage with parish leaders and congregations to mediate unresolved conflict, manage change, address unhealthy systemic issues, or generally to support parish flourishing.
  • Provide strategic advice to diocesan leaders about parish vitality and missional opportunities.
  • Coordinate designated diocesan grant discernment processes.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • University degree with at least 5 years of work-related experience.
  • Strong leadership, planning, and organizational skills with the ability to work both in a team and under one’s own initiative. Capacity to multi-task and prioritize while meeting competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated abilities with education/program design, process facilitation, program review change management, leadership training, and community development.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and public speaking skills, including pastoral listening, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills with the capacity to inspire trust in people from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with the life, culture, values and vision of the Anglican Church of Canada

 

Terms of Employment

  • Full-time, ongoing employment; salary and benefits commensurate with experience
  • Current and satisfactory Police Record Check; proof of COVID-19 vaccination required
