We are deeply grateful for the legacy gift of $1.1 million left by William and Ailsa Newton.  In honour of this gift, and he opportunity we had to celebrate their gift with a reception on Monday, January 13, 2014, from 12:30pm to 1:30pm in Hurlburt Hall. We we’re joined by 12 family members, including those who traveled all the way from Calagary, AB to be with us.William and Ailsa Newton have been faithful and generous supporters of McMaster Divinity College for over 10 years.  Having donated over $1.2 million over their lifetime, the Newtons lived their lives both humbly and generously, giving of their time and resources.  Dedicated to helping students who needed financial assistance through the sponsorship of two bursaries at McMaster Divinity College, both William and Ailsa realized the purpose of raising strong Christian leaders for God’s work.  Since their first gift in 2000, the Newtons have assisted a large number of students to become equipped to serve in ministry.  The Newtons spent their years volunteering together for the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary as well as being active members of the First Baptist Church.  William Newton spent his retirement years volunteering with many other charities including the Rotary Club and Horticultural Society, while Ailsa volunteered for over 50 years with charities like Meals on Wheels.  We are forever thankful for the dedicated relationship both William and Ailsa had with McMaster Divinity College and their contribution to God’s ministry.
