McMaster Divinity College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. August H. “Gus” Konkel to the position of Professor of Old Testament. This appointment is effective immediately.Dr. Konkel received his Ph.D. from Westminster Theological Seminary. He is also a graduate of Winnipeg Theological Seminary and Bible College. Since 1978, he has served on the faculty of multiple institutions, where he has taught from the undergraduate to the doctoral level. Most recently, he completed his tenure as president of Providence College and Seminary in Otterburne, Manitoba, a post that he has held since 2001. Dr. Konkel is ordained with the General Conference Mennonite Church (Mennonite Church Canada).Konkel is an expert on the historical books, the prophets, and the wisdom literature of the Old Testament. His published works include The Book of Job and 1 and 2 Kings, as well as many journal, lexical, dictionary, and pedagogical articles, dozens of book reviews, and a translation of Job for the New Living Translation (Tyndale, 1996; second edition 2004). He is currently working on a Believers Church Bible Commentary on 1 & 2 Chronicles, scheduled for completion in 2013. Konkel is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature and the Evangelical Theological Society.Dr. Stanley E.
