Discipleship in a New Technological Era Webinar

You are invited to join us on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 12:00pm to 1:15 pm for a Zoom webinar with McMaster Divinity College’s newest faculty member, Dr. Clement Y. Wen, on “Discipleship in a New Technological Era.”

In this session, Dr. Wen will use the lens of “media ecology” to share some thoughts on how Christian formation and discipleship may need to shift gears amidst some of the opportunities and challenges afforded us when it comes to a new era of life in our increasingly technological society. Along the way, some reflections surrounding what it means to be human in the contemporary technological situation will also be offered. Ultimately, this webinar seeks to be a conversation starter that might carry both theological and pastoral implications for our efforts at Christian formation and discipleship as we look further ahead into the 21^st century.

Highlights include:

• A very quick sampling of the kinds of new technologies that are in our midst and how such might affect our “lived ways” of “being human” within the world.
• A brief introduction to the field of “media ecology,” its current state of reception, and how insights from this discipline might still carry relevance when it comes to helping us interpret and engage the emerging technological situation.
• Comments on how the overall discussion ought to be couched in the broader frame of reflection regarding theological anthropology and the question of what it means to be a human being.
• Some proposed pastoral and practical suggestions for moving forward when it comes to Christian formation and discipleship.
