Allison Kach-Yawnghwe

Allison received her PhD in Mission Studies and Global Christianity from Boston University in 2025. Her dissertation is a transnational history of the modern youth mission movement Youth With A Mission. She published “Youth With A Mission and the spread of an evangelical missional ecumenism,” in the journal Missiology (2026), contributed a chapter on North American Pentecostalisms to Expanding Energies: The Dynamic Story of Christianity in North America (2024) and co-edited Creative Collaborations (2023), a book of case studies on North American mission collaboration with Dr. Dana L. Robert and Dr. Morgan Crago. Allison has given invited talks on YWAM and the Holy Spirit at Baylor’s Evangelical Studies Program Conference (2025) and on writing YWAM’s history at the Chester Ronning Center for Religious Studies at the University of Alberta, Augustana Campus (2025). She is the current president of the Canadian Society of Church History (CSCH) and an active member of the American Society of Missiology (ASM) and the International Association for Mission Studies (IAMS). Beyond preparing her dissertation for publication, Allison’s current projects include articles on the history of YWAM’s early years in Quebec (in French), the role of Canadian pentecostal missionaries in YWAM’s growth, and a chapter on the pentecostalization of evangelicalism.

As a part of her fellowship at MDC, Allison will be revising her dissertation into a monograph for publication. She will also develop research on the pentecostalism of evangelicalism and write a chapter on the subject for the Oxford Handbook of Pentecostal and Charismatic Studies, edited by John Maiden, Leah Payne, and Joao B. Chaves.
