Patristic Theology (PT) is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal publishing research on early Christian texts and the theological wisdom that inspired them. Published by McMaster Divinity College Press and the Centre for Patristics and Early Christianity (CPEC), it supports the study of early church literature, theology, history, worship, and spirituality.

Guidelines

Patristic Theology welcomes all essays dedicated to the study of the texts and traditions of the mothers and fathers of the early church: their literature, theology, history, worship, and spirituality

  • Style and formatting that follows the McMaster Divinity College Press Style Guide
  • A word count between 2,000 and 10,000 words, including notes
  • An abstract and bibliography must be included
  • Submission will be sent in PDF format
  • Essays must not include coding or tagging generated by programs such as Zotero or Endnote
  • To ensure a blind review process, remove all references to yourself and anonymize the file

After Submission

After submission, a response will be issued within ten business days confirming the reception of the submission. The decision to send the essay to peer-review will be made within one month of the initial submission. Reviewers will be asked to complete their review within two to three months. By submitting an essay to Patristic Theology, you indicate that the work is your own and that your essay is not under review elsewhere.
