A Mind for the Truth, a Heart for the World: Exploring the Life and Theology of John Stott

John Stott (1921-2011) is one of the most influential and important Christian pastor-theologians of the second half of the twentieth century. He came to prominence in Britain during a post-World War II evangelical revival that focused upon a merging of the mind and heart. A graduate of Cambridge University, Stott avidly pursued his pastoral vocation, but this soon extended to embrace a vision for global Christianity.

As a result, Stott became one of the leading figures in the worldwide evangelical movement. His involvement in the Lausanne movement resulted in definitive statements regarding the role of global Christianity. Stott became a significant voice not only in theology, but also in biblical studies and pastoral theology. He wrote on a wide range of topics in ways that spoke to the layperson about the foundations of the Christian faith. All this occurred while he continued to serve for most of his professional life as the pastor of what became, under his guidance, one of the leading evangelical churches in the UK–All Souls, Langham Place.

We will think together about Stott’s life and his dedication to a global vision of ministry; his many writings, which continue to resonate with those interested in the foundations of the Christian faith; and his enduring work through ministries that continue because of his vision, interest, and involvement.
