About Us

Aylmer Baptist Church located in the town centre of Aylmer Ontario, 30 minutes South of London, and 15 minutes East of St. Thomas. We are a congregation of about 125 which averages about 75 in weekly attendance. While an aging congregation, we remain active in ministry within our church and local community. We are blessed with a number of gatherings including a weekly Sociables (seniors), Club B- (youth), a monthly men’s breakfast, Cast offs, summer fire pit gatherings, Choir, Handbell choir, and Band. Our outreach ministries include a Community Meals, Snack program, and ministries to seniors residences and active participation in the Aylmer ministerial. Our worship is traditional though we aim for a more blend style of worship. We are grateful for a ministry team that includes part time staff (administrative assistant, director of music, and custodian).

Aylmer Baptist Church is affiliated with the Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec and Canadian Baptist Ministries. Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience and will be in alignment with Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec guidelines.

• A Masters of Divinity or equivalent from an accredited institution; or in the final year of studies towards completion of such a degree.
• Either accredited with the CBOQ or willing to enter into the accreditation process.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Pastor provides spiritual and pastoral leadership to the people of Aylmer Baptist Church (ABC). The Pastor serves as the spiritual leader and chief administrator of the congregation so that it can fulfill its mission and purpose as the body of Christ. The Pastor will preach, teach, mentor, coach, counsel and equip the members of ABC and give primary leadership in the ministries of worship, discipleship, congressional care (fellowship), integral missions, and church administration.

TIME COMMITMENT

The position of Pastor requires great flexibility in hours available for work, including evening and weekends. The position qualifies as full time. In general, the pastor will take Monday’s off. See employment contract for details related to vacation and study leave entitlement.

CHURCH LEADERSHIP & ADMINISTRATION (25%)

The Pastor shall:

• provide visionary leadership for the church.
• act as the primary spokesperson for the church’s ministries and work with relevant boards and committees in developing plans for ministry and church growth.
• oversee the work of the Music Director and the Administrative Assistant, developing and motivating the staff and ensuring healthy interpersonal dynamics among the staff and between the various ministries of the church.

WORSHIP (30%)

The Pastor shall oversee and coordinate all worship services, working in collaboration with the Worship Planning Committee.

DISCIPLESHIP (15%)

The Pastor shall be responsible for overseeing the “equipping of the saints” for the work of ministry, in collaboration with the Board of Deacons, the CE/Missions Committee, and the Sunday School Superintendent.

CONGREGATIONAL CARE (FELLOWSHIP) (15%)

The Pastor shall work with the Board of Deacons, the Visitation Committee and Prayer Team to provide for congregational care of its members and adherents.  

INTEGRAL MISSION (15%)

The Pastor shall:

• Collaborate with the Board of Deacon’s, and the CE/Mission Committee in advancing the community outreach ministries of the church.
• Research, survey and evaluate the local community to determine what outreach ministries are most needed and if existing ministries are effective.
• Work with Board of Deacons and church committees to develop new ministries as needed.
