East Toronto Mandarin Alliance Church

Position Overview

East Toronto Mandarin Alliance Church (ETMAC) is a Mandarin-speaking church under the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada. We are seeking a full-time English Ministry Pastor to lead and shepherd our English Ministry, currently consisting of 10–20 youth and young adults.
This is a long-term pastoral role, pivotal to the growth and development of the English congregation. We are prayerfully seeking someone with a strong calling toward youth and young adult ministry, a commitment to biblical preaching, and a clear vision for discipleship and leadership development.
All new hires will begin with a six-month probationary period to allow for mutual discernment and evaluation before transitioning to a long-term commitment.

Ministry Context

The English Ministry primarily serves Canadian-born Chinese youth and young adults. While the present congregation is largely second-generation Chinese, we anticipate gradual outreach toward a broader English-speaking community over time. The ministry requires stable pastoral leadership to ensure spiritual depth, structural clarity, and long-term continuity.

Key Responsibilities

The English Pastor will oversee and shepherd the English Ministry, including but not limited to:
• Providing spiritual vision and leadership for the English congregation
• Preaching regularly at weekly Sunday worship services
• Leading Bible studies and structured discipleship initiatives
• Discipleship to challenge members to grow in a transforming relationship with Jesus, and mentorship to lead them into taking active roles in ministry
• Investing personally in the spiritual formation of core members
• Providing guidance, theological grounding, and practical ministry resources to lay leaders
• Mobilizing young people toward evangelism and outreach
• Working in unity with the English Ministry coworkers and the Board of Elders in alignment with the church’s doctrine and mission

This position focuses exclusively on the English Ministry and does not include cross-department administrative oversight.

Qualifications

We welcome applications from MDiv graduates, ordained pastors, and seminary students. Seminary students nearing completion of their studies are warmly encouraged to apply — a six-month ministry placement can serve as a meaningful opportunity for mutual discernment, with the possibility of transitioning into a long-term pastoral role.
Candidates should demonstrate the following:
• Alignment with evangelical theology consistent with the Christian and Missionary Alliance
• A clear calling to youth and young adult ministry
• Strong commitment to discipleship and leadership development
• Ability to preach and teach Scripture clearly and faithfully
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a heart for relationship building
• Organizational skills and ability to develop structured ministry initiatives
• Passion for evangelism and outreach
• Ability to collaborate effectively with the Mandarin-speaking congregation and leadership
• Desire for long-term ministry engagement

Prior pastoral experience is welcomed but not required. Previous experience shepherding youth or young adults is considered a strong asset. Calling, theological alignment, and capacity for relational discipleship will be primary considerations.
