Summary of Position:
The Gathering Band Leader provides leadership to the Gathering Band of MacNab St. Presbyterian Church.
Ministry Responsibilities:
Working in collaboration with the Minister of Word and Sacrament, the Gathering Band Leader is responsible for selecting music, leading rehearsals, and guiding the music portions of the Gathering (contemporary) worship service. This role is a part-time position.
Objectives:
To cultivate a music ministry of authentic and joyful worship at the 9 a.m. Gathering Service, Sundays at MacNab Street Presbyterian Church.
To create a welcoming atmosphere, where everyone is welcome to participate and serve the Lord through worship, as they are able.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Facilitate Sunday worship services, which includes:
Arriving early (8:15 a.m.) for setup and rehearsal
Lead worship (approximately 4 songs for adults, 1 children’s song, and a Responsive Call to Worship may select or use the one provided)
Oversee and assist with teardown to put away equipment at the end of service
Lead the Gathering Band Worship Team
Coordinate members and conduct regular bi-weekly rehearsals
Teach new songs and practice familiar songs
Explore and select music suitable for Gathering through CCLI, and share materials with band members
Prepare and insert song slides into the weekly presentation file
Organize a schedule of participants at least one month ahead
Cooperate with the Traditional Service Worship Leader three times annually (Annual General Meeting, Budget Meeting, and Christmas Eve service)
Consult with the Minister of Word and Sacrament regularly (frequency TBD) to monitor/evaluate Gathering and make adjustments as deemed appropriate, and meet with Gathering Committee twice annually
Qualifications:
A Christian (with compatible beliefs with the Presbyterian Church of Canada) who is actively seeking to serve God and use their musical skill in His service
Experience and skill in working with musicians, and vocalists at all skill levels
Experience leading worship with keyboard/piano or guitar preferred
Degree in music or commensurate experience
