MDC honoured to receive heirloom Dutch Bible

Sun, February 26, 2023

McMaster Divinity College is pleased to announce the acquisition of an heirloom Dutch Bible for its archive, the generous gift of Mr. & Mrs. Albert and Martha van Mourik of Hamilton, Ontario.  Printed in the early eighteenth century, the Bible includes many beautifully illustrated maps and resources that will be of interest to scholars.  The Bible was brought to Canada about twenty-five years ago by Mr. van Mourik, after being passed down by his father who acquired the Bible at auction many years previously.

“McMaster Divinity College is honoured,” says Dr. Stanley Porter, President of McMaster Divinity College, “to receive this beautiful Dutch Bible and to add it to our collection of important Bibles and books that reflect our Christian heritage. A Bible such as this is a beautiful memorial of the faith of previous generations of Christians who regularly used it in their study of the Scriptures.”

McMaster Divinity College is the home of the Canadian Baptist Archives.  Those interested in conducting research should contact the archivist, Adam McCulloch.
