Dr. Clement Wen, Assistant Professor of Systematic and Historical Theology and the Howard and Shirley Bentall Chair in Evangelical Thought, recently offered the final of four keynote papers at the inaugural conference of the Cambridge Centre for Chinese Theology (Faculty of Divinity, University of Cambridge) that took place from September 22–24, 2026 in England. As one of the largest English-speaking conferences on Chinese theology ever held, the conference drew 107 attendees from around the world, including participants not only from the UK and North America, but also Asia, Australia, Continental Europe, and Latin America.
The other three keynote speakers were Prof. Brian Stanley, Professor Emeritus of World Christianity at the University of Edinburgh; Dr. Rennie Chow Choy, Public Historian at Westminster Abbey and Associate Lecturer in Church History at Westcott House, Cambridge; and Prof. Shao Kai Tseng, Research Professor at Zhejiang University in China. Other prominent scholars in the fields of world Christianity and Chinese theology were in attendance at the event as well.
Dr. Wen’s paper on “Inhabiting the ’Space Between’ and ’Space Amidst’ in View of the Coming Basileia of God: Constructing a Theologically Eclectic Ecclesiological Future for the Chinese Diaspora in North America” brought a fitting close to the conference in a manner that generated helpful academic space for further theological reflection and conversation.
