Dr. Stanley Porter will be visiting two institutions in New Zealand at the end of June to give public lectures and seminars to participants.

On June 20-21, 2018, he will visit the University of Otago in Dunedin, NZ, to give a lecture and seminar respectively.

Similarly, he will give a public lecture at Laidlaw College in Auckland, NZ on June 25, 2018, followed by a postgraduate seminar on June 26 titled, The Place of Linguistics in the Interpretation of Scripture. The abstract can be found below:

Although there have been some major inroads in recent times times, the history of exegesis is to overlook not just linguistics but matters of language itself. For this seminar, I will first trace some of the discussion of language issues in various handbooks on exegesis to gain an appreciation of the state of discussion, and then I will turn to some of the available linguistic models for interpreting Scripture. I hope to show that there is widespread neglect of matters linguistic that runs the risk of imperiling interpretation of Scripture. I will conclude with some positive suggestions for implementation.
