McMaster Divinity College awards approximately half a million dollars in financial assistance to our students each year. This money is awarded on a needs basis and does not need to be repaid. Students should apply for financial aid in order to qualify:

Graduate Assistantships
PhD students may apply to work as a Graduate Assistant (GA) which pays an additional $4,500, up to a maximum of 10 hours per week (240 hours total). These placements are awarded on a competitive basis to students in good academic standing and are most often awarded to PhD students.
Academic Achievement Awards
MDC awards more than $26,000 in academic awards and prizes each year. Students who show exceptional ability in specified areas may receive additional awards and prizes at the end of each academic year. Please note, Certificate, LOP, and Occasional students do not qualify for these awards.
OSAP Grants & Loans
Financial assistance may be available for those who qualify. Ontario students enrolled in PhD, MA, MDiv, MTS, and Certificate programs may be eligible for grants and loans awarded by the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). When applying for OSAP, please indicate McMaster Divinity College as your institution. For questions regarding OSAP, contact MDC’s Financial Aid Office at mdcaid@mcmaster.ca.

MDC Student Fees
MDC student fees are $42.00 per course, up to a maximum of $400, or 10 courses (30 units). These fees cover a variety of programs and activities for students, including Divinity Students’ Association (DSA) lunches and events, IT support, library access, and your subscription to the Digital Theological Library.

Student & GSA Health Fees
Whether you are a full-time or part-time student, you are required to pay GSA Health fees. Once students reach 18 units, regardless of status, are required to pay Student Health fees. The rates for these fees are below, more information on the GSA health plan is available at www.studentcare.ca.

International students pay an additional UHIP annual premium based on the below rates:

Refund Policy
Refund Policy – All 3-unit courses, plus MA and DPT program courses
Please note that all fees or fines are not refundable after the last day to add/drop. See the MDC calendar for this date.
If dropping a course is due to a health issue, MDC will consider a change in refund upon receipt of a doctor’s note sent to the Registrar.

Refund Policy – PhD program
Since PhD students pay an annual amount, there is no charge for dropping courses. However, if a PhD student withdraws from the program, tuition up to the end of the withdrawal month will be charged. -
