MDC welcomes The Canadian Baptist Historical Society (CBHS) to our campus for their Annual General Meeting Saturday, March 15, 2014. Scholars, pastors, students and those interested in Baptist history are all warmly invited to attend meetings of the society. Since 2014 is the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, this year’s papers focus on Baptists and the war. Dr. Gord Heath will be giving a plenary lecture entitled “South Africa to the Somme: The Legacy of the Boer War for Canadian and New Zealand Baptists in the Great War.” It will be an examination of how Canadian and New Zealand Baptist attitudes to war and empire in the South African War set important precedents for Baptists in the Great War.Speakers also include: Michael Haykin and Ian Clary: “Canadian Baptists and the First World War,” and Charles Johnston: “McMaster University and the War.” Business will begin at 9:15 a.m. and will conclude at 12:30 p.m followed by lunch at a local restaurant.For further information on the annual meeting, please contact: Gord Heath at 905.525.9140 X26409 or gheath@mcmaster.ca.
